Household bleach contains sodium hypochlorite, which causes chemical burns to the mouth, esophagus, and stomach if ingested, and respiratory irritation when fumes are inhaled. ASPCA lists it as a common household toxin for pets.

What to do
Move your pet to fresh air, rinse the mouth with water, and call a veterinarian or animal poison hotline immediately.
