Brussels Griffon
The Brussels Griffon is a small Belgian toy breed with a distinctive flat face, large round eyes, and a characteristic beard. Despite their tiny size, they have a bold, big personality and form extremely strong bonds with their owners. They are intelligent, playful, and well-suited to apartment living.

Apartment friendly
Excellent apartment dog: small size, moderate activity level, and strong owner attachment make the breed an ideal urban companion. Can be prone to barking, so early socialization is important.
Care
Rough-coated dogs require hand-stripping or professional grooming 2–3 times a year and trimming around the eyes; smooth-coated dogs need weekly brushing. Avoid heat and humidity due to brachycephalic airway issues. Clean facial folds, teeth, and ears regularly. Provide moderate daily walks without overexertion.
Health
Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, eye issues (progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, corneal ulcers), luxating patella, syringomyelia, hip dysplasia, skin allergies, dental problems due to bite
Coat
Two coat types: rough (wiry, with beard and moustache) and smooth (Petit Brabançon)
Travel
The Brussels Griffon typically falls within cabin weight limits (usually up to 8 kg with carrier). Avoid flying in hot weather as brachycephalic breeds are heat-sensitive. Always check airline policies regarding brachycephalic breeds in advance, as some carriers impose restrictions. Acclimate the dog to the carrier well before travel.
Carrier size
Size S carrier: internal dimensions approximately 40 cm long and 30 cm high. A soft-sided cabin bag carrier is suitable.
Harness size
Harness size XS or S (chest girth typically 30–40 cm). A harness is strongly preferred over a collar due to brachycephalic airway concerns.
Leash
A lightweight leash 1.2–1.5 m long, no more than 1 cm wide. Retractable leashes are not recommended due to the risk of sudden jerks on a brachycephalic dog.
