Labrador and Vizsla mix
A Labrador and Hungarian Vizsla mix is a cross of two gundog breeds, usually affectionate, energetic and very people-focused. Looks and temperament depend on which parent the dog takes after, so weight, colour and energy level can vary noticeably. It suits active owners who spend a lot of time outdoors with their dog.

Apartment friendly
Can live in an apartment if it gets long, active walks every day; it barks little. Without exercise or when left alone a lot it gets bored and destructive.
Care
Brush 1–2 times a week, more often when shedding. Check and clean the ears regularly, especially after swimming. Watch portion sizes — the Labrador side may bring a big appetite. Needs 1.5–2 hours of active exercise a day with room to run and swim.
Health
Hip and elbow dysplasia, a tendency to put on weight, ear infections, food and skin allergies, epilepsy
Coat
Short, dense coat; puppies taking after the Labrador may have an undercoat. Usually red, yellow or chocolate
Travel
In the car use a crate or car harness and stop every 2–3 hours. A short Vizsla-type coat gives little warmth, so pack a coat for cold weather. Never leave the dog in a hot car.
Carrier size
Too big for the cabin (20–32 kg). Flying requires an IATA crate in the hold, sized to the individual dog.
Harness size
Usually L, sometimes M or XL depending on which parent the dog takes after. Fit by chest girth; a Y-shaped harness works well.
Leash
A 1.5–2 m leash for town and a 5–10 m long line for fields and parks: both parent breeds have a strong hunting drive.
