German Spitz (Klein)

The German Spitz (Klein) is one of the oldest breeds in Central Europe, recognised by its luxuriant double coat, wedge-shaped head, and high-set curled tail. The breed is cheerful, intelligent, and loyal, adapting well to apartment life. Despite its small size, the German Spitz is alert and often used as a watchdog.

Patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), collapsing trachea, hip dysplasia, idiopathic epilepsy, obesity

Double coat: long straight outer coat and a thick cotton-wool-like undercoat; a pronounced mane around the neck

Travel

Acclimatise the dog to the carrier from puppyhood. On flights, place the soft carrier under the seat in front. Bring familiar food and water. On long road trips, stop every 2–3 hours for a walk. German Spitz are sensitive to heat — avoid overheating.
