Caucasian Shepherd Dog
The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is one of the largest breeds in the world, originating in the Caucasus Mountains where it was used for centuries to guard livestock and homes from predators. The breed is known for its fearlessness, loyalty to its family, and strong independent streak, making it best suited for experienced dog owners. It is not recommended for apartment living and thrives in a home with a large, securely fenced yard.

Care
Regular brushing (daily for long coats, several times a week for shorter coats), especially during shedding season. Daily exercise of 60–80 minutes split into sessions. Weight management with giant-breed diet fed twice daily in smaller portions to prevent bloat. Routine vet check-ups, dental care, and ear cleaning. Early socialization and consistent training are essential.

Travel
The Caucasian Shepherd Dog tolerates confined travel poorly. For road trips, a spacious crate or large SUV cargo area is needed. Air travel is only possible in the cargo hold in an approved crate; check airline requirements well in advance. Frequent stops for exercise and water are essential. An experienced handler must accompany the dog at all times.
Carrier size
Carrier transport is not applicable — the breed is giant-sized and does not fit standard pet carriers or in-cabin crates. Airline-approved oversized crate for cargo hold required for air travel.
Harness size
XXL or XXXL harness (chest girth typically 90–130 cm or more); a heavy-duty nylon or leather harness rated for giant breeds with sturdy metal hardware is required.
Leash
A sturdy 1.2–1.5 m nylon or leather leash with a heavy-duty metal clasp rated for 70 kg or more. Recommended in combination with a martingale collar or prong collar under the guidance of a professional trainer. Retractable leashes are not recommended.
